Job Title: Apprentice Support Worker
Duration: Fixed Term (18 Months)
Hours of work: Full Time (37 hours per week)
Salary: £7.05 per hour, increasing to £7.50 per hour after successfully completing 12 months
Location: East London (Forest Gate, Stratford) and Essex (Witham, Rayleigh, Brentwood)
L&Q Living have an exciting opportunity for five Apprentice Support Workers to join our Care & Support team.
Our newly created Academy will provide you with an opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and competence to provide high quality compassionate Care and Support. This will be a combination of on and off the job training which will enable you to gain the experience as well as a nationally recognised qualification (Level 2 in Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship in Health and Social Care), whilst earning a wage.
Are you new to adult social care? Not to worry, an apprenticeship is one of the best ways to get into the sector and you will work alongside experienced staff to become a skilled and confident worker. At the end of the programme and upon successful completion, we will offer you a permanent contract.
You will be based in one of our schemes providing support for older people or adults with learning disabilities or mental health support needs to achieve their personal goals to live as independently and safely as possible and to improve their quality of life, including mental and physical wellbeing. You will be providing person centred care and support to meet the needs of each individual, which can range from high level care to help them carry out daily tasks such as personal care including bathing and washing, dressing, taking medication, cooking and cleaning; to lower level support as and when is needed.
You will have a genuine desire to work in Care and the following transferable skills and abilities:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Sound numeracy and literacy to complete handovers, write simple reports and log incidents
• Sufficient IT skills to be able to update records
• Able to work in partnership with residents and other professionals
• Able to work flexibly in line with staffing/rota requirements of the scheme. This may include waking nights, shifts and weekends
• Able to work effectively as part of in a team and under pressure.
In this role, you will show warmth and support to the service users and their families; be compassionate, caring, friendly, patient, hardworking, committed, trustworthy, courageous, willing to learn, have the ability to follow instructions, fit to carry out the function of the post e.g. moving objects/using a hoist, reliable, flexible and able to use your own initiative.
